Things happen, gears move, and Piotr finally finds himself able to stand outside a conference room where he can talk to Kitty.

The two guards keep looking at him and then at the genoshan collar. He finally takes it from them and snaps it around his own neck.

Enough of this red tape.

She's smiling.

Just a little, but it's the most meant smile there is.

"Hey, honey."

There's throat-clearing and she pulls away (reluctantly, but pulls away) relatively quickly.

"They're not so big on the touching the prisoner gig. I'm okay." First things first, and what he needs to know.

"I'm okay."

She really doesn't have that luxury.

"Yes. I'm sure," and it's a little wry.

And almost true.

"I'm okay."

"I miss her," she says softly. "I miss everyone.

"Especially you."

And then she's snorting, even if they are where they are.

"Meg'll take good care of him."

Oh, I do like hell, she thinks and say, with a crooked grin, "Maybe a little."

"You're always so thoughtful, Petey Pureheart."

She's smiling, even if it's crooked, as she answers, "Said I'm okay."

Because no.

There really isn't anything he can do, as much as she might wish.

"Well," and it's half a laugh, "I'm not really thrilled with it, Piotr.

"And I guess I kinda am."

The guard stiffens.

Kitty says, sharply and quickly, "No," before more gently, "No.

"I'm okay."

And it's still almost true.

It's not a yank.

But it's very firmly removing her hand, because she's the one who'll pay for any annoyance the guards decide they're suffering from this visit.

"I'm fine."

If she says it enough, she might even believe it.

"--I'll miss you."
